Questions
Shiftoku FAQ
These answers cover the most common questions about daily locks, practice play, saved progress, sharing, and how the shifting system behaves. For a fuller walkthrough, start with How to Play; for solve advice, read the Strategy guide.
Is there a new Shiftoku puzzle every day?
Yes. The daily lock changes once per day. Everyone gets the same daily challenge, so results are easy to compare with friends. The Practice Vault is available separately when you want to warm up on earlier locks.
Can I practice old locks?
Yes. Use the Practice Vault to play training locks. Practice solves do not update your daily streak, which means you can experiment with different starts, directions, and connected runs without affecting the main daily result.
What does a connected run mean?
A connected run is a group of selected neighbouring digits. A run of three selected digits shifts each of those digits by 3. If you select separate groups, each group uses its own length, so a single digit shifts by 1 while a pair shifts by 2.
Why did a digit wrap from 9 to 0?
Digits sit on a ring from 0 to 9. Moving up from 9 wraps to 0, and moving down from 0 wraps to 9. This wraparound is part of the puzzle: sometimes moving “away” visually is actually the shortest route around the lock.
Where is my progress saved?
Progress, streaks, and settings are saved locally in your browser. There is no account system at the moment. If you clear browser data, switch browsers, or use a different device, your local Shiftoku progress may not carry across.
What do the colours mean?
The colours tell you how close each digit is to the target digit in that position. Green means exact. Other colours show increasing distance around the digit ring, so you can use each row of feedback to decide which positions to protect and which ones still need work.
Do I need to start with a special code?
No. You can enter any five digit starting code. Some players like a familiar opener so they can compare patterns from day to day. Others change their start depending on how they want to explore the lock. Both approaches work.
Can I share my result?
Yes. After a solve or failed attempt, use the challenge/share controls to copy a compact result with your score, colour grid, and a link to the lock. The share text avoids revealing the actual hidden code.
Does Shiftoku use ads?
Shiftoku may use advertising in the future, but ads should not interrupt the lock itself. Privacy, contact, and terms pages are available from the footer and menu so players can understand how the site works before playing.
